HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Elizabeth Tisdahl on the
4occasion of her retirement as Mayor of the City of Evanston;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl served as Mayor of Evanston for
7eight years from April of 2009 to May of 2017; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl's work on environmental
9sustainability was recognized by the United States Conference
10of Mayors; she was selected as one of two winners of the 2011
11Mayors' Climate Protection Awards and was a member of the
12United States Conference of Mayors Water Council in Washington,
13D.C.; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Prior to running for the mayor's office, Mayor
15Tisdahl served as the 7th Ward Alderman from 2003 to 2009; her
16political experience began in 1989 when she joined the Evanston
17Township High School Board of Education, where she served 12
18years, including two as president; in 2002, she was presented
19the Democratic Party of Evanston Community Service Award; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl was a founding member of the Mothers
21Against Gangs School Liaison in 1987 and served as co-chair

1from 1992 until 1995; between 1987 and 1995, she served on the
2Evanston Community Foundation Advisory Committee; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl's many honors include the Park
4School Certificate of Recognition in 1992, the
5Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center Salute to Women in Human
6Services Appreciation Award in 1999, and the Chessmen Club of
7the North Shore Community Service Award in 2002; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mayor Tisdahl has lived in Evanston for 39 years
9and chose the community because of its diversity and its
10commitment to the welfare of all its citizens; she and her late
11husband, Al, raised their family in Evanston and sent their
12children to Evanston public schools; she now has two
13grandchildren living in Evanston, also attending public
14schools; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17recognize Elizabeth Tisdahl on her retirement as Mayor of the
18City of Evanston, and we wish her the best in all her future
19endeavors; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Mayor Tisdahl as an expression of our esteem and
22respect.
