HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 130th anniversary of the
4founding of Glenwood Academy on February 8, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Glenwood Academy is a not-for-profit, residential
6education community that serves children and their families;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Originally known as the Illinois Industrial
9Training School for Boys, it was founded by Oscar L. Dudley and
10Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln; and
 
11    WHEREAS, For 130 years, Glenwood Academy has provided a
12safe haven and exemplary academic program to children who were
13unable to receive essential home care and a good education in
14their own communities; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Glenwood Academy's nurturing residential
16education program teaches social and leadership skills in a
17structured and secure environment; all Glenwood graduates
18enroll in a college, a university, a trade school, or enter
19military service; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Glenwood Academy has been actively engaged in

1eradicating poverty, injustice, and inequality through the
2power of residential education for children and families,
3changing the trajectory of their lives through access to
4increased opportunity; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7recognize the 130th anniversary of the founding of Glenwood
8Academy on February 8, 2017, and we wish them many more
9successful years; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Glenwood Academy as a symbol of our respect and
12esteem.
