HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!"
44-H Club's 100th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The club's first leader was Ferdinand Basting,
6followed by Glen Rader, Gordon Ropp, Roberta Ropp, and Diana
7Ropp; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Over the last century, members of the club have
9done a variety of service projects to benefit the Central
10Illinois area such as participating in Adopt A Highway in
11Central Illinois and Adopt A School in Chicago, visiting
12nursing home residents at Christmas and providing homemade
13holiday cards, providing bottled water at the Tri-Shark
14Triathlon, maintaining planters on the grounds of the McLean
15County Museum of History, and sponsoring blood drives for the
16American Red Cross of the Heartland; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Each year, the club participates in the McLean
18County Fair; over the years, six members of the club have been
19crowned royalty at the fair; members participate in an ice
20cream sundae booth and "Share the Fun" skits at the fair;
21"Let's Go Ag!" has won the State 4-H Softball Championship; and

1    WHEREAS, Several club members have had significant
2successes, being chosen for leadership in a variety of areas;
3members have served as international youth exchange students
4and attended the National 4-H Congress and Club Camp in
5Washington, D.C.; as adults, several former members been
6appointed as members of the McLean County Farm Bureau Board of
7Directors; one former member has served as the Director of the
8Illinois Department of Agriculture, and other former members
9have held key leadership roles in Bloomington Normal Rotary
10Clubs, including serving as Governor of District 6490; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The anniversary will be celebrated with shared
12memories, ice cream, pie, and cake on the afternoon of July 8,
132017 at the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17recognize the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!" 4-H Club's 100th
18anniversary, and we wish them many more successful years; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!" 4-H Club as a symbol
22of our respect and esteem.
