HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!" 4-H Club's 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The club's first leader was Ferdinand Basting, followed by Glen Rader, Gordon Ropp, Roberta Ropp, and Diana Ropp; and

WHEREAS, Over the last century, members of the club have done a variety of service projects to benefit the Central Illinois area such as participating in Adopt A Highway in Central Illinois and Adopt A School in Chicago, visiting nursing home residents at Christmas and providing homemade holiday cards, providing bottled water at the Tri-Shark Triathlon, maintaining planters on the grounds of the McLean County Museum of History, and sponsoring blood drives for the American Red Cross of the Heartland; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the club participates in the McLean County Fair; over the years, six members of the club have been crowned royalty at the fair; members participate in an ice cream sundae booth and "Share the Fun" skits at the fair; "Let's Go Ag!" has won the State 4-H Softball Championship; and

WHEREAS, Several club members have had significant successes, being chosen for leadership in a variety of areas; members have served as international youth exchange students and attended the National 4-H Congress and Club Camp in Washington, D.C.; as adults, several former members been appointed as members of the McLean County Farm Bureau Board of Directors; one former member has served as the Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, and other former members have held key leadership roles in Bloomington Normal Rotary Clubs, including serving as Governor of District 6490; and

WHEREAS, The anniversary will be celebrated with shared memories, ice cream, pie, and cake on the afternoon of July 8, 2017 at the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!" 4-H Club's 100th anniversary, and we wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Silverleaf "Let's Go Ag!" 4-H Club as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
