HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and
3Combat anti-Semitism in the United States Department of State
4was created in 2004 with bipartisan congressional support and
5has had the full support of the last two presidents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Since 2004, the Special Envoy has helped document
7abuses against Jewish communities abroad, as well as develop
8and implement approaches to fight anti-Semitism, filling a
9major void; the Special Envoy was also able to address specific
10problems in France, Argentina, Hungary, Ukraine, Greece, and
11Egypt that might have otherwise not been properly addressed;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Anti-Semitism is on the rise in the United States
14and in other nations; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The position of Special Envoy to Monitor and
16Combat anti-Semitism is currently vacant and needs to be
17filled; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and
19Combat anti-Semitism should also be adequately staffed and
20funded; and

1    WHEREAS, The United States has been a leader in the fight
2against anti-Semitism and for human rights; the Special Envoy
3has played a unique and important role in this effort;
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7urge President Trump to fill the position of Special Envoy to
8Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism and to fully fund and staff
9the office; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11delivered to President Trump.
