HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On May 25, 2012, the President of the United States of America proclaimed May 28, 2012 through November 11, 2025 as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Prairie State College and VFW Post 311 have partnered with the United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration, established by Congress, to "thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans"; and

WHEREAS, It is important to honor the men and women who survived and the 58,260 men and women who gave their lives, 11 of whom were from Crete, Olympia Fields, and Steger; and

WHEREAS, The citizens of the Beecher, Crete, Olympia Fields, and Steger, must never forget the pain and suffering that lingers today for the men and women who fought with honor and distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; and

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois renews its commitment to those who answered the country's call to service in Vietnam and their families; and

WHEREAS, Throughout this commemoration, we will strive to live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their families, and all of the men and women who have served our country the fullest respect and support of a grateful State and nation; and

WHEREAS, The freedoms and liberties we are blessed to enjoy are a direct result of the courage, devotion, and sacrifice and draw inspiration and pride from all that they are; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the Village of Beecher, the Village of Crete, the Village of Olympia Fields, and the Village of Steger's Vietnam Veterans on this commemorative event; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Village of Beecher, the Village of Crete, the Village of Olympia Fields, and the Village of Steger as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
