HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the Sugar Grove Corn Boil on
4the occasion of its 50th anniversary and on its tradition of
5fostering a community spirit and supporting charitable causes;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, The first Corn Boil was organized in 1967 by the
8Young Adults Club for the purpose of raising funds to erect a
9new street lamp for the local community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The original Corn Boil used corn grown in, and
11around, the local community; it was then cooked using a vintage
12steam engine to boil large tubs of water; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Corn Boil began to grow quickly, and over the
14following years, it became more and more popular; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Seeing this growth, the Young Adults Club was
16reorganized, becoming the Sugar Grove Community Group in order
17to retain senior members while attracting new members for the
18purpose of continuing fundraising projects, including the Corn
19Boil; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1985, volunteers from around the community

1built a pavilion for the Corn Boil using donated materials; and
 
2    WHEREAS, In 2000 and 2004, the Corn Boil was extended,
3first to a two-day event, and subsequently, to a three-day
4event to keep up with its popularity and growth; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Today, the Sugar Grove Corn Boil has grown into a
6four-day event that is attended by up to 35,000 people a year
7with dozens of attractions, including live music, carnival
8rides, local vendors, fireworks show, car show, 5K run, beer
9garden, carnival, parade, bingo, and many others exciting
10events; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The 2017 Sugar Grove Corn Boil seeks to raise
12awareness of Autism and will be dedicated to Giant Steps'
13Canopy Adult Services Program (CASP), a program dedicated to
14providing day programs to adult individuals on the autism
15spectrum; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Sugar Grove Corn Boil, after 50 years of
17operation, still continues in the tradition of community
18fundraising and charity to worthy and noble causes that its
19founders began; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1recognize the Sugar Grove Corn Boil on its 50th anniversary,
2and we wish it 50 more years of success and continued growth;
3and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent
5to the organizers of the Sugar Grove Corn Boil.
