HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the life of Grandmaster Stan
4McKinney; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney is a 9th degree black belt;
6he began his studies of the martial arts in the 1960s in
7Chicago; he obtained his 1st Dan black belt in Shorei Goju
8Karate in 1970; later, he received his black belt in Kenpo
9Karate; he has studied Hapkido Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Gung
10Fu, Wing Chung, and Kung Fu; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney has taught and lived in the
12Uptown community for 10 years and worked as a community
13activist since the 1970s; he has operated martial arts classes
14for the Chicago Park District and schools around the city that
15enable students to obtain credit for their studies; he has
16opened 10 dojos, trained thousands of students, and promoted
17six black belts; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney is a Midwest heavyweight top
19ten point fighter champion; he has received Midwest official
20referee judge of the year from 1995 to 1998; he was appointed
21regional director of the United Martial Arts Association and
22inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame by the US Federation

1of Pankration Athlima (USAFPA); twice, he won the American
2Karate Association nationals and has been a midwest circuit
3seniors top ten fighter for five straight years; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Grandmaster McKinney continues to work in the
5community, teaching martial arts for free to many youth across
6the City of Chicago; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9recognize the life of Grandmaster Stan McKinney and thank him
10for his commitment to his community; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Grandmaster McKinney as a symbol of our respect
13and esteem.
