HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on the occasion of the celebration of their 106th National Day; and

WHEREAS, National Day, also known as Double Ten Day, is the national day of the Republic of China (Taiwan); the day commemorates the start of the Wuch'ang Uprising of October 10, 1911, which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in China and the establishment of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on January 1, 1912, with Dr. Sun Yat-sen as its first president; and

WHEREAS, On every National Day, the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and overseas Chinese from around the world come together to celebrate the nation; the numerous events of the celebration include a military review, a national parade, fireworks displays, the National Day concert, and a Presidential Address; and

WHEREAS, the members of this body stand with the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in celebrating the anniversary of the founding of their proud nation, which stands as a beacon of democratic governance and integrity for Asia and the world at large; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on the occasion of the celebration of their National Day and wish them continued success and happiness in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
