HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Bill Moore on the occasion
4of his 100th birthday on November 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bill Moore grew up on a 200-acre farm in Kentucky,
6the second youngest of nine children; he started school at the
7age of four and enrolled in college at 15; he received his
8degree in accounting at the age of 20 and earned a commission
9with the United States Navy, rising to the rank of senior
10lieutenant in the British West Indies; after he was discharged
11following the war, he and wife, Freda, settled in Aurora, where
12he started an accounting firm; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bill Moore joined the Kiwanis Club of Aurora in
141950; he is still an active member, driving himself to the
15Prisco Community Center every Tuesday for the weekly noon
16meetings; he has been volunteering for the Kiwanis Pancake
17Breakfast fundraiser ever since the first local breakfast was
18held in 1951; he has participated in the chapter's numerous
19service projects, which have included everything from handing
20out peanuts to building playgrounds; he served as treasurer for
21five years and on the board of directors; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Bill Moore was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1986;

1in 2012, the Kiwanis Club of Aurora renamed its scholarship for
2Waubonsee Community College graduates to attend Aurora
3University the "G. William "Bill" Moore Scholarship"; that same
4year, he was named honorary president of the college; he and
5two other World War II veterans served as a grand marshals in
6Aurora's 2017 Memorial Day parade; and
 
7    WHEREAS, At age of 100, Bill Moore is the oldest member of
8the Kiwanis Club of Aurora; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate Bill Moore on his 100th birthday, and we wish him
12many more wonderful years; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Bill Moore as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
