HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr.
4George Bark, who passed away on July 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark was born in Harvey to Ralph and Irene
6Barker on August 17, 1959; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark had a lifelong passion for learning and
8spent his academic career at the University of Illinois, first
9earning his bachelor's degree in biology in 1981 and then a
10master's degree in 1983; in 1993, he earned a Ph.D. in
11nutritional sciences, and in 1994, his medical degree, both
12also from the University of Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark went on to complete his Family Practice
14Rural Residency Program at Union Hospital in Terre Haute and
15became board certified in 1997; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark settled into family practice as a rural
17doctor in Paxton, working with Christie Clinic, the Provena
18Covenant Family Care Network, and eventually the Gibson Area
19Hospital whose staff considered him part of their family; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 2003, Dr. Bark returned to the University of

1Illinois as a professor in their College of Medicine; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark was a huge supporter of his alma mater
3and was a season ticket holder to football and basketball; he
4was also Gibson Hospital's representative on the Fighting
5Illini Golf team; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr Bark was selected to receive the 2017 Rural
7Physician of Excellence Award posthumously from the Illinois
8Rural Health Association; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Bark made a huge impact on improving the
10healthcare environment through the many patients whose lives he
11touched as well as the medical students he inspired by his vast
12knowledge; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15mourn the passing of Dr. George Bark, and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dr. Bark as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
