HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Chris Dangles on receiving the 2017 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, In 1974, Dr. Dangles graduated from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Maywood, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Dangles completed his residency in Orthopaedic Oncology at the Sloan Kettering Institute in New York in 1977 and in Orthopaedic Surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago in 1980; and

WHEREAS, After serving as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Great Lakes Naval Regional Medical Center, Dr. Dangles moved to Central Illinois in 1987, where he practiced at Carle Clinic until 2010; and

WHEREAS, In 2010, Dr. Dangles joined the Orthopaedic Department at Gibson Area Hospital; his outstanding reputation has drawn both patients and other physicians and orthopaedic surgeons into the Department; and

WHEREAS, Through his many years of service as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois, Dr. Dangles has inspired hundreds of medical students; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Dangles has been active in professional societies, including serving as President of the Illinois Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Eighth District Trustee for the Illinois State Medical Society, a Board Member for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons American Medical Association Delegate; and

WHEREAS, Outside of the operating room, Dr. Dangles owns a vast collection of 23 bicycles and logs over 5,000 miles annually; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Dangles has improved rural healthcare in East Central Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Dr. Dangles for his years of selfless service and dedication to his patients and students; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Dangles as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
