HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Takeda's 50th anniversary of
4doing business in the United States and its many contributions
5to the State of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Takeda is a pharmaceutical company focusing its
7research and development efforts on oncology,
8gastroenterology, the central nervous system therapeutic
9areas, and vaccines; it was founded in Osaka, Japan in 1781 and
10entered the United States in 1967; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Takeda's Deerfield corporate campus was built in
122006 and serves as the its commercial headquarters for its U.S.
13Business Unit; the Deerfield campus consists of three office
14buildings and a separate child care facility, comprising more
15than 628,000 square feet; about 70% of its over 1,000
16Deerfield-based employees live close enough to the campus that
17their commute is less than 30 minutes; Takeda has announced its
18plan to make a multi-million dollar investment in renovations
19and remodeling for its Deerfield facilities, expected to begin
20in 2017 and to be completed in 18 months; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Takeda offers its employees an encouraging,
22supportive environment that inspires scientific rigor and

1rewards creativity; employees can take advantage of such
2benefits as flexible and modified workweeks, award-winning
3onsite childcare, walking and running trails, fitness
4facilities, and adoption assistance; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The upward business growth of Takeda's U.S.
6Business Unit and its established presence as one of the top
7biopharmaceutical employers in Illinois has contributed to
8Takeda earning several national workplace awards; the Chicago
9Tribune listed its Deerfield campus among Chicago's Top 100
10Workplaces for four consecutive years; Working Mother Magazine
11named Takeda one of its 100 Best Companies for five years in a
12row based on the its leadership in creating progressive
13programs for its workforce in the area of advancement of women,
14flexibility, childcare, and paid parental leave; in 2017, the
15Illinois Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and
16Reserve (ESGR) awarded Takeda the Pro Patria Award, the highest
17recognition given by the U.S. Government to an employer who
18demonstrates exceptional support for national defense by
19adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees
20to participate in the National Guard and Reserve; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Takeda espouses the corporate philosophy of
22"Takeda-ism" (Integrity, Fairness, Honesty, and Perseverance),
23and is committed to being a good corporate citizen; it
24undertakes a wide range of philanthropic programs that benefit

1Illinois communities; since 2011, it has donated over $500,000
2to nonprofits in Deerfield and the surrounding areas as part of
3its annual corporate giving fundraiser, Takeda Cares Day;
4Takeda also contributes more than $1 million in additional
5funds to local and regional nonprofits annually and encourages
6employee giving through the Matching Gifts Program, which
7matches each employee's charitable donations up to $5,000 per
8year; Takeda provides employees with paid time off to volunteer
9in the community, and Deerfield employees have collectively
10donated hundreds of volunteer hours to local charities; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Takeda provides funding and scholarships to local
12health and science education initiatives that engage students,
13their families, and teachers; in 2012, it committed to funding
14Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry to support science
15teacher education programs in Chicagoland's high need areas;
16since 2005, Takeda has provided scholarships to two Deerfield
17Bannockburn Riverwoods High School seniors with an interest in
18pursuing higher education in science; since 2011, it has
19provided Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair Student
20Scholarships to high school students with a focus on health
21sciences; for over 10 years, Takeda has provided scholarships
22to a select group of science and medical research postgraduate
23students from Chicago area universities; and
 
24    WHEREAS, Takeda is deeply committed to environmental

1responsibility; its Deerfield campus office buildings are
2Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
3certified, and have earned the prestigious Energy Star
4certification from the Environmental Protection Agency for
5recognition as energy-efficient top performing buildings; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Takeda believes all patients should have access to
7medications prescribed by their healthcare providers; the
8Takeda Help at Hand patient assistance program, founded in
92008, has provided more than one million prescriptions to more
10than 200,000 patients in the United States who are uninsured or
11underinsured and need help accessing their medications; and
 
12    WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Takeda employees have been
13proud of what they do to help patients and their communities in
14the United States; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17recognize Takeda's golden anniversary doing business in the
18United States, and we wish it many more years of success; and
19be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the Takeda employees at the Deerfield corporate
22campus as a symbol of our respect and esteem for all they do to

1improve healthcare and economic growth in the great state of
2Illinois.
