HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Teresa Brown on being selected as the 2017 Illinois State Board of Education's Outstanding Early Career Educator; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Brown is a sixth-grade social studies teacher at the Harrison Community Learning Center; previously, she taught eighth-grade language arts at Manual Academy, where she also coached girls track and softball and organized Black History Month events and eighth-grade celebrations; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Brown graduated from Manual Academy and attended Bradley University on an academic and partial track scholarship in 1987; she left in 1990, but eventually returned, earning a degree in education in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Never one to shy away from starting over, Teresa Brown began teaching at 43; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Brown will accept the award at the state board's annual Those Who Excel banquet in Normal; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Teresa Brown on being selected as the 2017 Illinois State Board of Education's Outstanding Early Career Educator; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Teresa Brown as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
