HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Marian Elizabeth Saathoff
4Pierzynski of Aurora on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski was born in Mount Olive during a
6snow storm on December 11, 1917; she was the seventh child of
7Sarah Fremgen and John Saathoff, a coal mine examiner; the coal
8from the mine where her father worked is in the coal mine
9exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; she
10had three brothers and six sisters; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski graduated from Mount Olive High
12School and worked as a waitress at the historic Ariston Cafe,
13located in the town of Litchfield on Route 66; when she was in
14her 20s, she relocated to Chicago and lived with one of her
15sisters and secured a clerical position at Florsheim Shoes
16downtown on Adams and Canal; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In the 40s, Marian Pierzynski met her husband,
18Richard Pierzynski, a World War II veteran, at a square dancing
19club; they were married on July 28, 1952 and lived on the south
20side of Chicago in the Back of the Yards neighborhood; she had
21two children, James Pierzynski and Susan Pierzynski Andrews;

1    WHEREAS, When her children were school age, Marian
2Pierzynski went back to work at Westinghouse Electric in
3Chicago; upon her retirement, she relocated to Wheaton with her
4daughter; in the late 90s, she relocated to Aurora to live with
5her daughter; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski was born while the United States
7was fighting in World War I; she has lived through the Roaring
8Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Civil
9Rights Era; she witnessed man's landing on the moon and
10countless other historical events; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13congratulate Marian Elizabeth Saathoff Pierzynski on her 100th
14birthday, and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Marian Pierzynski as a symbol of our
18congratulations.
