HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Marian Elizabeth Saathoff Pierzynski of Aurora on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski was born in Mount Olive during a snow storm on December 11, 1917; she was the seventh child of Sarah Fremgen and John Saathoff, a coal mine examiner; the coal from the mine where her father worked is in the coal mine exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; she had three brothers and six sisters; and

WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski graduated from Mount Olive High School and worked as a waitress at the historic Ariston Cafe, located in the town of Litchfield on Route 66; when she was in her 20s, she relocated to Chicago and lived with one of her sisters and secured a clerical position at Florsheim Shoes downtown on Adams and Canal; and

WHEREAS, In the 40s, Marian Pierzynski met her husband, Richard Pierzynski, a World War II veteran, at a square dancing club; they were married on July 28, 1952 and lived on the south side of Chicago in the Back of the Yards neighborhood; she had two children, James Pierzynski and Susan Pierzynski Andrews; and

WHEREAS, When her children were school age, Marian Pierzynski went back to work at Westinghouse Electric in Chicago; upon her retirement, she relocated to Wheaton with her daughter; in the late 90s, she relocated to Aurora to live with her daughter; and

WHEREAS, Marian Pierzynski was born while the United States was fighting in World War I; she has lived through the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Civil Rights Era; she witnessed man's landing on the moon and countless other historical events; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marian Elizabeth Saathoff Pierzynski on her 100th birthday, and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Marian Pierzynski as a symbol of our congratulations.
