HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Kankakee Community College on receiving a Gold Rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE); and

WHEREAS, The AASHE's 2017 Sustainable Campus Index recognized top-performing college and universities overall by institution type and in 17 sustainability impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) and further highlighted innovative and high-impact initiatives from institutions; and

WHEREAS, In the 2017 report, Kankakee Community College ranked second in North America among associate degree colleges for sustainability practices; and

WHEREAS, Scoring is on a scale from zero to 100, with scores of 65 and above earning Gold Status; and

WHEREAS, Kankakee Community College earned a score of 67.94, making it one of only two community colleges in the country to receive the gold status distinction; and

WHEREAS, Kankakee Community College placed highest in campus engagement, coordination, planning and governance, diversity and affordability, and water use and rainwater management; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Kankakee Community College for their leadership and commitment to advancing sustainability; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourages all colleges and universities in Illinois to continue to strive for excellence in all areas related to energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy solutions; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kankakee Community College President Dr. John Avendano to commemorate the college's commitment to sustainability.
