HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Building awareness and promoting a positive impression of construction trade crafts and enabling the development of a talent pipeline between the industry and the workforce of the future is important for the success of the industry; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Manufacture/Craft Your Future campaign members are scheduling presentation opportunities with regional chambers of commerce, Rotary Clubs, and other community groups as well as meeting with school district superintendents across St. Clair, Madison, and Monroe Counties to arrange presentations with teachers, guidance counselors, students, and parents; and

WHEREAS, Annually, a metro construction career expo is held by Southern Illinois Builders Association and the Southern Illinois Construction Advancement Program in Belleville to address an acute workforce shortage in the construction industry; and

WHEREAS, The construction industry workforce has thousands of individuals retiring in the coming years, which will create numerous openings within the industry in Illinois; it will be difficult to fill all the jobs unless the current and future workforce is educated about the well-paid jobs that will be available; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare November 3, 2017 as Construction Craft Day in the State of Illinois to encourage citizens to learn more about careers in the craft of construction; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Southern Illinois Builders Association CEO, Donna Richter.
