SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Gaultney brothers from LeRoy bravely served
7their country during World War II and gave the ultimate
8sacrifice; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ralph Gaultney served in the U.S. Navy as a
10gunners mate, third class; he was assigned to the U.S.S.
11Arizona and was mortally wounded on December 7, 1941 during the
12attack on Pearl Harbor; he died on December 24, 1941 in the
13Navy Hospital at Pearl Harbor; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Leonard Gaultney also served in the U.S. Navy as a
15machinist's mate first class; he was assigned to the heavy
16cruiser U.S.S. Vincennes and died on August 9, 1942 when his
17ship was sunk during the naval battle of the Solomon Islands,
18Guadalcanal campaign; and
 
19    WHEREAS, David Gaultney served with the U.S. Marine Corps
20as a private first class; he was assigned to Company A, First
21Battalion, Third Division, Ninth Regiment and died on March 3,

11945 during the battle of Iwo Jima; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
4CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Interstate 74 as it
5travels through LeRoy as the "Gaultney Brothers Memorial
6Highway"; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
8is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
9State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
10giving notice of the name the "Gaultney Brothers Memorial
11Highway"; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of the is resolution be
13presented to the Gaultney family, the Mayor of LeRoy, and the
14Secretary of Transportation.
