SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served their country and communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Busby was born in Danville to Edwin and Nora
6Busby on October 21, 1940; he graduated from Young America High
7School in 1959; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Roger Busby served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to
91967, attaining the rank of Sgt. E-5; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roger Busby graduated from Eastern Illinois
11University in 1971 and completed instruction at the Police
12Training Institute at the University of Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roger Busby devoted his life to public service; he
14served 12 years as a deputy sheriff for Edgar County and later
15worked as an abuse investigator for the Illinois Department of
16Children and Family Services; he also was a licensing
17representative for home day cares until his retirement in 2006;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, In his free time, Roger Busby gave his time and
20talents to many civic and community organizations, including

1the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, the Illinois Police
2Association, Brocton American Legion Post 977, Oakland VFW Post
33637, 40/8, Edgar County Republicans, AMVETS, the Eastern
4Alumni Association, the National Rifle Association, and the
5Illinois State Rifle Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Roger Busby served the public on the Brocton Town
7Board and the Edgar County Sheriff's Merit Board; he was the
8precinct committeeman for Embarrass Precinct in Edgar County;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, On August 30, 2013, Roger Busby passed away,
11leaving behind his wife, two stepchildren, and three
12grandchildren; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roger Busby was "Mr. Edgar County"; he loved all
14things and all people, especially his wife, Karon, their
15neighbors, and their many, many family members and friends; he
16embodied the phrase, "God, family, country"; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
19CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designates Illinois Route 49 from US
20Route 36 to Illinois Route 133 as the "Roger Busby Memorial
21Highway"; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
2is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
3State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
4giving notice of the name the "Roger Busby Memorial Highway";
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Roger Busby and the Secretary of
8Transportation.
