SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara McLachlan of Oak Park, who passed away on May 6, 2017, at the age of 81; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan was born on October 24, 1935 and raised in the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a degree in education; she was a grade school teacher for many years before starting a career as a paralegal in the 1980s, but later returned to teaching before her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan served as past co-president and board member of the League of Women Voters of Oak Park; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan was a voracious reader and was a member of several book clubs and discussion groups; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan was an avid bridge player and participated in a number of groups throughout Oak Park over the past 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan was known by family and friends to inspire others with her kindness, intellect, vibrant spirit, determination, and sense of humor; and

WHEREAS, Barbara McLachlan was the much-loved wife of the late Duane McLachlan, and the cherished mother of daughter Maureen McLachlan, with whom she enjoyed a special and enduring relationship; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barbara McLachlan, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara McLachlan as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
