SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elizabeth Joan "Betty" Marinis, who passed away on January 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marinis was born in Chicago to Arthur L. and Marie (Murley) King on June 9, 1930; she graduated from St. Anne's Nursing School in 1951 and married William Marinis in Des Plaines on May 17, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marinis had a diverse nursing career, but was most proud of her work as an obstetrics nurse; she was also an early member of the Crystal Lake Volunteer Ambulance Service; she earned her bachelor's degree in 1985 from the University of St. Francis; she retired from nursing in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marinis was loved by all who knew her and had great compassion for those in need; she was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marinis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. William Marinis; her sister, Noreen Adler; and her numerous canine Boxer companions; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Marinis is survived by her children, William (Deborah) Marinis, Mary Beth (Walter) Thomas, James (Megan) Marinis, and Thomas (Stephanie) Marinis; her grandchildren, Jared (Kayla) Marshall, Ryan Marshall, Elizabeth Marinis, Kathryn (Tyler) Haws, Sarah Thomas, Walter Thomas, William J. Marinis, Isabel Marinis, William G. Marinis, Grace Marinis, Stephen Marinis, James Marinis, and Mary Marinis; and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Haws; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elizabeth Joan "Betty" Marinis, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Elizabeth Marinis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
