SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Abdul Hameed Dogar of Lombard, who passed
4away on October 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar was born in India and raised in an
6area that is now part of Pakistan; he studied civil engineering
7at Aligarh Muslim University in India; he moved to the United
8States in March 1962; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar worked for the Illinois Department of
10Transportation as a professional civil and structural
11engineer; among the projects he helped design were Interstate
12Highway 55 and some of the bridges on Interstate Highway 355;
13he retired from IDOT in 1991; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar became involved with Muslim education
15through his work with the Muslim Community Center; he was part
16of a group that started the Islamic Foundation and helped
17establish Islamic education in the western suburbs; the
18foundation opened a mosque and a K-12 school, which now
19provides education for approximately 750 students; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar made the Islamic Foundation his
21full-time job after he retired from IDOT and focused on

1marriages, family, counseling, funerals, study, and prayer; he
2served as the Executive Director for over 40 years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar was a father figure for the members of
4his community, and most called him Uncle Dogar; his mission was
5to make worship and education accessible for the members of his
6community and to ensure his community was held together by the
7morals and values that define them as Muslims; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Abdul Dogar is survived by his wife of 64 years,
9Masooda; his sons, Haroon and Jahangeer; his daughters, Kishwar
10Khalid and Qaisra Haider; his 12 grandchildren; his two
11great-grandchildren; his brothers, Abdul Jabbar and Abdul
12Haleem; and his sister, Khalida; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Abdul Hameed Dogar and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Abdul Dogar as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
