SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lawrence Ferry, who passed away on August
49, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was born to Ray and Mae Ferry on
6February 12, 1921; he graduated from Waukegan Township High
7School in 1939, after a standout career in high school
8football; in his senior year, he was named "Mayor for a Day"
9and kidded about how that day helped him realized he should
10avoid politics; he later played football for the Lake County
11Merchants, a semi-professional team, and remembered those days
12fondly; he married Mary Zannini on June 3, 1952; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry proudly served in the United States
14Army, European Theater, during World War II; he was awarded
15several combat medals, including the Bronze Star for saving
16three of his men; he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was a Teamster and worked for
18Meadow Gold Dairy for 37 years; he later worked at St. Therese
19Hospital (now Vista West); and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was a lifetime member of the
21American Legion Homer Dahringer Post 281; he enjoyed working

1with his hands and happily helped family, friends, and
2neighbors with household projects; he and Mary traveled
3extensively by car, especially to Florida, Colorado, Montana,
4and Texas to visit their children and grandchildren; they took
5the trip of a lifetime to Italy for their 40th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry lived a long, rich life and looked
7out for people who were less fortunate; his family and friends
8miss his storytelling and hearty laugh; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry was preceded in death by his
10parents; his stepmother, Sal; his daughter, Patt (the late
11Nels) Nizer; his brothers, Clyde (the late Barbara) and Paul;
12his brothers-in-law, Gene (the late Eileen) Zannini and Dr.
13John (the late Frances) Zannini; and his special cousin, Dr.
14Thomas (the late Marifred) Jackson; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lawrence Ferry is survived by his loving wife of
1665 years, Mary; his children, Marty (Ed) Biondi, Linda, Paul
17(Sherre), and Jane; his grandchildren, John, Mike, Kate, Mike,
18and Dave (Shalee); his great-granddaughter, Darkis; and his
19many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Lawrence Ferry and extend our sincere condolences to his

1family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Lawrence Ferry as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
