SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Manley Lawrence "Larry" Zanco of
4Waukegan, who passed away on November 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was born in DeKalb to Giuseppe (Joe)
6and Inez Zanco on September 30, 1928; he moved to Waukegan in
71937; he attended St. Bartholomew School in Waukegan and
8graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1946; he earned
9his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois
10University in 1950, where he was also one of the founding
11members of the school's golf team; he then served in the United
12States Army from 1951-1953; he earned his master's degree from
13Roosevelt University in 1972; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco worked as an educator in Elementary
15School District 64 in North Chicago for almost forty years
16before his retirement; he was also a talented cartoonist, and
17his editorial work appeared in many publications, including the
18News-Sun, Boys' Life, School Shop, and several religious
19magazines; he also wrote and illustrated the book General Shop
20Projects; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was a proud Italian-American, and he
22enjoyed sharing stores about his life and dining out with

1family and friends; for 60 years, he designed the family
2Christmas card, which was highly anticipated by those who
3received it; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading,
5and golf; his family was most important, and its continued
6growth gave him much joy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was preceded in death by his parents;
8his aunt, Tonina Bettina; and his uncle, Barba Bettina; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Larry Zanco is survived by his devoted wife of 62
10years, Marge; his loving children, Michael (Kathryn) and
11Pamela; his cherished grandchildren, Joe, Matt (Hayley Topel),
12Zoe, Dustin (Julia) Lafferty, and Haley Burroughs; his
13sisters-in-law, Ruth Serdar, Mary Ann Skof, and Lorrie Aalund;
14his many nieces and nephews; his uncle Bob (Dee) Serdar; and
15his aunt Violet "Vi" Anderson; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Manley Lawrence "Larry" Zanco and extend our sincere
19condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
