SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Manley Lawrence "Larry" Zanco of Waukegan, who passed away on November 15, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was born in DeKalb to Giuseppe (Joe) and Inez Zanco on September 30, 1928; he moved to Waukegan in 1937; he attended St. Bartholomew School in Waukegan and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1946; he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University in 1950, where he was also one of the founding members of the school's golf team; he then served in the United States Army from 1951-1953; he earned his master's degree from Roosevelt University in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco worked as an educator in Elementary School District 64 in North Chicago for almost forty years before his retirement; he was also a talented cartoonist, and his editorial work appeared in many publications, including the News-Sun, Boys' Life, School Shop, and several religious magazines; he also wrote and illustrated the book General Shop Projects; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was a proud Italian-American, and he enjoyed sharing stores about his life and dining out with family and friends; for 60 years, he designed the family Christmas card, which was highly anticipated by those who received it; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and golf; his family was most important, and its continued growth gave him much joy; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Tonina Bettina; and his uncle, Barba Bettina; and

WHEREAS, Larry Zanco is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Marge; his loving children, Michael (Kathryn) and Pamela; his cherished grandchildren, Joe, Matt (Hayley Topel), Zoe, Dustin (Julia) Lafferty, and Haley Burroughs; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Serdar, Mary Ann Skof, and Lorrie Aalund; his many nieces and nephews; his uncle Bob (Dee) Serdar; and his aunt Violet "Vi" Anderson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Manley Lawrence "Larry" Zanco and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Larry Zanco as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
