SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kay Turner Derdeyn, longtime resident of Richmond Heights, who passed away on November 7, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Kay Derdeyn was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Thomas Lester and Mary Ellen (Powell) Turner on January 16, 1935; she graduated from Carr Central High School in 1953 and then attended the University of Southern Mississippi; she earned a certificate in Secretarial Science in 1955; she married Eugene Derdeyn in 1957 and moved to the Chicago area, where she lived until his death in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Kay Derdeyn was committed to education and her community; she received an associate's degree from McHenry County College in 1986 and worked for both McHenry County and the Richmond Gazette; she was a member of the Richmond Village Board, recording secretary for the Highland Lakes (Leesburg) Resident Council and for the Mary Ellen Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; she was elected Richmond village Clerk in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Kay Derdeyn married Walter "Wally" Schilling in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1995; they later moved to Leesburg, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Kay Derdeyn was proud to become a Florida Master Gardener in 2003; she also served as the secretary for the Master Gardener Society in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Kay Derdeyn is survived by her husband, Walter; and her children, David (Liliana) Derdeyn and Denise (Joe Fonk) Derdeyn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kay Turner Derdeyn and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kay Derdeyn as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
