SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph C. Burg of Woodstock, who passed away on November 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Christopher and Anna (Ahlers) Burg on May 19, 1933 and was the youngest of eight children; the family moved to Woodstock in 1945; he attended St. Mary's School and graduated from high school in 1951; after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air force, where he served for four years; he married Mary Ellen Evans at St. Mary's Church in Woodstock on September 7, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg was a carpenter and worked for Freund Construction for 25 years; he retired from Peet Frate Line Inc.; he was also a 28-year member of the Woodstock Rural Fire Department, where he served as Chief; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg was active at St. Mary's; he was President of the School Board, a member of the Parish Council, and a member of the Woodstock Council #776 Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight and longtime Financial Secretary; he was also a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg and his wife enjoyed spending time at their summer home in the Wisconsin Dells and vacationing with friends; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg was preceded in death by his parents; his seven siblings, William (Grace) Burg, Al (Audrey) Burg, John (Dorothy) Burg, Helen (Ralph Kristensen), Dorothy (George) Kohl, Ervin (Phyllis) Burg, and Claire (Tennes) Gabrielson; and his brother-in-law, Robert Evans; and

WHEREAS, Joe Burg is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary; his children, Mary Jo Burg, Marcia (Jeff) Porter, Gary (Wendy) Burg, Robert Burg, and Michelle (Curtis) Price; his grandchildren, Meagan (Andrew Ruehl) Porter, CJ Price, Abigail Burg, Alivia Price, Kylie Burg, Madelyn Price, and Jason Burg; his great-grandchildren, Caden and Cambrie Ruehl; his sister-in-law, Susan Evans; and his 38 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph C. Burg and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph C. Burg as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
