SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Scott Zeiders M.D. of Savoy, who
4passed away on November 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders was born in Canton, Ohio to Dr. Glenn
6Wilson and Teresa Scott Zeiders on April 5, 1940; he married
7Beth Rae Bandy in Champaign on April 13, 1985; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders graduated from Williams College; he
9received his medical degree from the University of Rochester
10School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed a four-year
11internship/residency in internal medicine at Northwestern
12University; he completed a two-year fellowship at the Scripps
13Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California; he
14served two years on active duty in the United States Air Force
15as a captain in the medical corps; he was Chief of Internal
16Medicine, Chief of Professional Services, and Acting Hospital
17Commander, 328th USAF Hospital, Richards-Gebaur AFB, Kansas
18City, Missouri; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders joined Carle in 1973 and enjoyed a
2030-year career as a rheumatologist and head of the department;
21he also served as the chief of medicine; after retirement, he
22spent four years as the editor of the medical journal, Carle

1Selected Papers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Carle Foundation Hospital awarded Dr. Zeiders the
3"most outstanding contribution in medical education" award in
41986, followed by the Legacy Award in 2005 for providing
5exceptional care and compassion for patients, as well as
6playing a role in the growth and development of the institution
7for future patients and physicians; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders served as clinical assistant
9professor of medicine and head of the section of rheumatology
10at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; he was
11presented the Golden Apple for excellence in teaching by the
12Class of 1987; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The research and publications by Dr. Zeiders
14helped make methotrexate a mainstay of rheumatic disease
15treatment and he lectured throughout the United States and
16Europe; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders was a member of numerous professional
18societies, including the Champaign County Medical Society and
19the American College of Rheumatology; he was a founding fellow
20of the American Rheumatism Association; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders enjoyed sharing time with his family

1and friends, spinning stories, genealogy, gardening,
2traveling, mentoring young adults, cooking, and boating; after
3retirement, he volunteered as an educator and ombudsman for
4bewildered or overwhelmed patients and their families; he was
5humble and very kind to everyone he met; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Zeiders is survived by his wife, Beth; his
7children and their families, Bethany and Mitch Lieberman and
8their three children, Andrew, Noah, and Emma, David and
9Kathleen Zeiders and their sons, Josh Methven (Kara
10Hendershot), Jeremiah Methven (Betsy Methven-Dorner) and their
11son, James, and Jack, and Amy Zeiders and her twins, Taylor and
12Tyler; and his brother, Glenn (Mary) Zeiders; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Robert Scott Zeiders M.D., and extend our sincere condolences
16to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dr. Zeiders as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
