SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert J. "Bob" Ostermiller of Pleasant
4Prairie, Wisconsin, who passed away on November 17, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was born in Quincy to Joseph and
6Antoinette (Broeker) Ostermiller on July 7, 1928; he attended
7St. Francis Elementary School and Notre Dame High School in
8Quincy; he served in the United States Army in Korea from 1950
9to 1952 with the 24th Infantry Division, attaining the rank of
10sergeant; he was discharged in 1952 and married Pauline Fetter
11at St. Francis Catholic Church on September 4, 1954; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was employed as an advertising and
13sales manager by Sears, Roebuck and Company in Quincy,
14Waukegan, and Vernon Hills for 40 years, retiring in 1988; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was a loyal member of Waukegan
16Elks Lodge No. 702 for 47 years and held the titles of Exalted
17Ruler of the Lodge, Vice President, and Past District Deputy
18Grand Exalted Ruler of the North District of Elks of Illinois;
19he was secretary of Lodge No. 702 for 14 years as well as
20serving as chairman and on numerous committees; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller and his family were charter

1members of the St. Dismas Catholic Church, where he was an
2active member of the Men's Club; he also belonged to the AARP
3and was a former member of the American Legion, the Waukegan
4Glee Club, and the Norstates Ambassador Club; he loved to
5travel and he and his wife took numerous trips across the
6United States; he loved to decorate his home for the holidays,
7especially Christmas; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was preceded in death by his
9parents; his brothers, Raymond, Virgil, Eugene, and Donald; his
10sister, Mary Ann Ostermiller; his sisters-in-law, Beryle
11Ostermiller, Ruthe Ostermiller, Margie Ostermiller, and Fern
12Ostermiller; his nephews, Michael Ostermiller and William
13Fetter; his nieces, Susan Porche and Joyce Geschwandner; his
14great-niece, Michelle Geschwandner; and several uncles and
15aunts; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller is survived by his wife of 63
17years, Pauline; his son, Gary (Cheryl); his daughter, Paula
18Niemann (Richard); his granddaughters, Alexis and Katelyn
19Niemann; numerous nephews and nieces; his step-grandson, Jeff
20Auger (Katie Congdon); his step-great-grandson, Lenox Micha
21Auger; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and many
22friends and neighbors; therefore, be it
 
23    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Robert J. "Bob" Ostermiller, and extend our sincere condolences
3to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Bob Ostermiller as an expression of
7our deepest sympathy.
