SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert J. "Bob" Ostermiller of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, who passed away on November 17, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was born in Quincy to Joseph and Antoinette (Broeker) Ostermiller on July 7, 1928; he attended St. Francis Elementary School and Notre Dame High School in Quincy; he served in the United States Army in Korea from 1950 to 1952 with the 24th Infantry Division, attaining the rank of sergeant; he was discharged in 1952 and married Pauline Fetter at St. Francis Catholic Church on September 4, 1954; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was employed as an advertising and sales manager by Sears, Roebuck and Company in Quincy, Waukegan, and Vernon Hills for 40 years, retiring in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was a loyal member of Waukegan Elks Lodge No. 702 for 47 years and held the titles of Exalted Ruler of the Lodge, Vice President, and Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the North District of Elks of Illinois; he was secretary of Lodge No. 702 for 14 years as well as serving as chairman and on numerous committees; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller and his family were charter members of the St. Dismas Catholic Church, where he was an active member of the Men's Club; he also belonged to the AARP and was a former member of the American Legion, the Waukegan Glee Club, and the Norstates Ambassador Club; he loved to travel and he and his wife took numerous trips across the United States; he loved to decorate his home for the holidays, especially Christmas; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Raymond, Virgil, Eugene, and Donald; his sister, Mary Ann Ostermiller; his sisters-in-law, Beryle Ostermiller, Ruthe Ostermiller, Margie Ostermiller, and Fern Ostermiller; his nephews, Michael Ostermiller and William Fetter; his nieces, Susan Porche and Joyce Geschwandner; his great-niece, Michelle Geschwandner; and several uncles and aunts; and

WHEREAS, Bob Ostermiller is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline; his son, Gary (Cheryl); his daughter, Paula Niemann (Richard); his granddaughters, Alexis and Katelyn Niemann; numerous nephews and nieces; his step-grandson, Jeff Auger (Katie Congdon); his step-great-grandson, Lenox Micha Auger; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and many friends and neighbors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert J. "Bob" Ostermiller, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Ostermiller as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
