| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James McAleer "Jim" Spittel of Crystal | 4 | | Lake, who passed away on November 18, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Spittel was born in Baltimore, Maryland to | 6 | | Robert and Geneva Spittel on November 29, 1924; he grew up in | 7 | | Catonsville attending both the Catonsville elementary and high | 8 | | schools; he graduated in 1942 and worked for the Rheem Mfg. Co | 9 | | in Baltimore before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in January of | 10 | | 1943; he served as a sonar operator aboard two destroyer escort | 11 | | ships, the USS J. Richard Ward, DE-243 and the USS Eisner, | 12 | | DE-192; after two years and 10 crossings of the Atlantic Ocean | 13 | | doing convoy duty and shore duty, he was honorably discharged | 14 | | on February 3, 1946; he married Mary Jane "Janie" O'Donnell on | 15 | | January 24, 1948; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Jim Spittel joined Minneapolis Honeywell | 17 | | Regulator Co. in Baltimore on September 8, 1947; in early 1949, | 18 | | he was assigned to the Washington, D.C. branch as an | 19 | | application engineer; he was given the task of project engineer | 20 | | for the 1950 renovation of the White House; this entailed | 21 | | engineering the first commercial centrally automated | 22 | | environmental control system in the United States; in 1973, he | 23 | | was reassigned to the Arlington Heights Honeywell factory and |

| 1 | | engineering facility as a project manager for central automated | 2 | | control systems in locations such as Wright Patterson Air Force | 3 | | Base, Texas A&M University, and Harvard University; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Jim Spittel retired in 1985 and he and his wife | 5 | | started a new adventure of "RVing", where they towed Holiday | 6 | | Rambler trailers approximately 213,000 miles in all 48 | 7 | | continental states, 13 states in Mexico, and 10 provinces in | 8 | | Canada; in 2002, he settled down in Crystal Lake, sharing his | 9 | | life with Janie and playing bridge; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jim Spittel was preceded in death by his parents | 11 | | and his wife, Janie; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Jim Spittel is survived by his children, J. Craig, | 13 | | Barbara Ann, Judith M. Smith, and Timothy O.; his | 14 | | grandchildren, Teresa Lynn (Smith) Armolt and Chad Smith; and | 15 | | his great-grandchildren, Piper Armolt, Hunter Armolt, and | 16 | | Archer Armolt; therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 19 | | James McAleer "Jim" Spittel, and extend our sincere condolences | 20 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 21 | | it further
