SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of the Reverend Dr. Willard C. Blomquist,
4who passed away on December 5, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was born in Michigan to Arvid and
6Signe Blomquist on October 28, 1924; beginning at the age of
712, he spent his summers working in the woods with his father;
8he graduated from Augustana College and from Augustana
9Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity; he married
10Virginia Olson in Cambridge in 1949; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was ordained into the ministry at
12the Washington National Cathedral in 1950; in 1980, he earned
13his Doctor of Ministry at Trinity International University in
14Deerfield; he served congregations in Bemidji, Minnesota and
15Davenport, Iowa before joining Trinity United Lutheran Church
16in Waukegan to begin a ministry that lasted 30 years; after his
17retirement, he was named pastor emeritus; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist served on the board of directors
19at Augustana College; he was active in the former Waukegan Area
20Council of Churches, serving as its president; he served as
21vice-pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church and as its visitation
22pastor for more than 20 years; he continued his ministry at

1Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, where he resided for the last four
2years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist was preceded in death by his wife
4of 63 years, Virginia; three infant children; his parents; his
5sister, Lorraine Morgan; and his brother, Donald Blomquist; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Pastor Blomquist is survived by his daughters,
7Anne Malecki and Kathryn (James) MacNeil; his grandchildren,
8Matthew (Julia) Santullano, Sophie Malecki, Eryn MacNeil, and
9John MacNeil; and his great-grandchildren, Leia, Alexander,
10and Adela Santullano; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13the Reverend Dr. Willard C. Blomquist, and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Pastor Blomquist as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
