SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Ann "Barb" Guthrie of Pittsfield, who passed away on January 1, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was born to Clyde and Nola Wineland Baughman on August 30, 1942; she graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and attended Quincy University, where she received her bachelor's degree in education; she received her master's degree from Western University; and

WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie first taught fifth grade in Hull, later moving to the Barry School system, where she taught for 27 years; and

WHEREAS, After retiring, Barb Guthrie moved to Pittsfield and became active at the United Methodist Church; she enjoyed helping people learn to read and loved quilting and tending to her flower garden; she was a member and recording secretary of the Illinois State Board of Education; she was the president of the Mississippi Valley Reading Council and a member of Pike County H.C.E., the Madonna Fellowship, and the Quilting Club; and

WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Lawrence and Bruce Baughman; and

WHEREAS, Barb Guthrie is survived by her son, Michael Kent Guthrie; her grandchildren, Dillan and Caleb Guthrie; and her special friend, Larry Gooud; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barbara Ann "Barb" Guthrie, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barb Guthrie as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
