SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alva E. Shouse Jr. of Coal Valley, who
4passed away on January 3, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alva Shouse was born in Gibbs, Missouri to Alva E.
6Sr. and Jessie Pearl Williams Shouse on July 25, 1932; he
7served in the U.S. Army as a cook during the Korean War and
8liked to tell the story of when he was a cook for a chain of
9restaurants around the country that were owned by his "Uncle
10Sam"; he married Carmella Degen in Rock Island on May 26, 1972;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alva Shouse worked for the John Deere Foundry in
13Silvis for 27 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1985; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alva Shouse was affectionately known as "Pappy"
15and "Shorty"; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading; he
16loved his dogs and, above all else, his family was the most
17important thing to him; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Alva E. Shouse Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
