SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder of Normal, who
4passed away on January 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was born in Altamont to Edwin S. and
6Clara M. Schroeder on September 10, 1921; he married Cleo K.
7Buzzard in Urbana on May 30, 1943; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder proudly served in the United States
9Army with the 1st Cavalry Division as Troop Commander of G.
10Troop, 8th Regiment in the Philippines and Japan during World
11War II; in 1952, he returned to service with the 44th Illinois
12National Guard Division as a Battery Commander, 144th AA
13Artillery Battalion during the Korean War; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder earned a Bachelor's Degree in
15Banking and Finance from the University of Illinois; he worked
16for State Farm Fire and Casualty Company for over 39 years and
17served as Vice President, Treasurer, and Reinsurance Vice
18President; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was elected as the Normal Town
20Councilman twice; he was also active in Republican politics as
21Precinct Committeeman and Deputy McLean County Chairman; after

1his retirement, he volunteered as a Trustee on the Board of the
2Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District for 32 years, 19
3of them as Board President; in 2006, the BNWRD honored his
4leadership by naming its 200-acre wetlands restoration the
5Kenneth L. Schroeder Wildlife Sanctuary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was an avid golfer, and enthusiastic
7fisherman, an accomplished bridge player, a master of oatmeal
8raisin cookies, the originator of the Longevity Cocktail, and a
9respected adviser to his family and friends; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder was preceded in death by his wife,
11Cleo; his parents; and his sister, Winona Kott; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ken Schroeder is survived by his children, Margery
13(Gary) Moogk, Gerry E. (Vicky) Schroeder, and Mark C. (Barbara)
14Schroeder; his five grandchildren; and his eight
15great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Kenneth L. "Ken" Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
