SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elizabeth A. "Betty" Sullivan of Wonder
4Lake, who passed away on January 7, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Betty Sullivan was born in Chicago to Frank and
6Elizabeth (Leptich) Scherer on December 25, 1929; she married
7William J. Sullivan in Chicago on April 22, 1950; and
 
8    WHEREAS, While living in Chicago, Betty Sullivan was a
9homemaker and provided support for her husband, father, and
10brother, as they owned and operated Armitage Hardware Store in
11Chicago from 1949 to 1971; in 1962, she and Bill moved to
12Wonder Lake; they purchased the Wonder Lake Hardware store in
131971 and it became Sullivan's Hardware Store; in 2002, after
14over 30 years in business, they sold the hardware store and
15retired in 2003; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Betty Sullivan and Bill were instrumental in
17co-founding the Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce, where she
18volunteered as treasurer for many years and was a staple of
19chamber events; she served as a Master Property Owners
20Association (MPOA) delegate for the Highland Shores
21subdivision and as an officer on the MPOA Board of Directors;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Betty Sullivan was a longtime member of Christ the
2King Church in Wonder Lake, where she taught CCD classes; she
3was active with the Wonder Lake Fire Department Auxiliary and
4the Wonder Lake Women's Club; her favorite leisure time
5enjoyments included taking cruises with her husband and
6participating in a golf league; her biggest pride and joy in
7life was her beautiful family; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Betty Sullivan was preceded in death by her
9parents; her husband, William; her brother, Frank; and her
10son-in-law, Jerry Draffkorn; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Betty Sullivan is survived by her children,
12Barbara Sullivan, Sue Draffkorn, Leann (Sean) McMonigal,
13Robert (Renee) Sullivan, Larry (Julie) Sullivan, and Patrick
14(Jonnie Jo) Sullivan; and her grandchildren, Sheila (Sean)
15Britten, Rebecca (Pavel) Tryska, Elizabeth (Chad) Stewart,
16Amanda (Brian) Garner, Jill (Ken) Oakley, Jim (Olivia Stangret)
17Draffkorn, Kyle Sullivan, Kelley (Joe Martinez) Sullivan, Lisa
18Sullivan, Shane McMonigal, and Brenna McMonigal; therefore, be
19it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Elizabeth A. "Betty" Sullivan, and extend our sincere

1condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Betty Sullivan as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
