SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Perry "Jim" Hecht of Woodstock, who
4passed away on February 12, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Hecht was born in Woodstock on January 7,
61935; he graduated from Woodstock High School in 1953; he then
7graduated Cum Laude from Carleton College in Northfield,
8Minnesota with Phi Beta Kappa distinction in 1957; an
9undergraduate internship at the United Nations paved the way
10for his lifelong adherence to civic duty and interest; in June
111960, he earned his LL.B. from Yale Law School and was admitted
12to the Illinois Bar; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jim Hecht practiced law at his own firm on the
14historic Woodstock Square for 53 years; as an attorney, he
15received the preeminent AV rating from his peers for the
16highest level of legal knowledge, ethical standards, and
17professional excellence; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Hecht was involved in many community projects,
19including the Woodstock Opera House, the Bull Valley
20Association and Garden Clubs, the Illinois Migrant Council,
21Head Start of Woodstock, the McHenry County Conservation
22District and Audubon Society, the Woodstock Community Unit

1School District 200, McHenry County College, and the Unitarian
2Universalist Church of McHenry County; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jim Hecht was an avid jazz musician and
4aficionado, a fly fisherman, a traveler, an art and book
5collector, and an intellectual; upon retirement, he spend time
6with family and friends, fishing in his backyard pond, reading
7literature, listening to jazz standards and classical music,
8and soaking in the Midwest landscape and artistry; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Hecht is survived by his six children and
10their families; his eight grandchildren; his brother and
11sister-in-law; his life partner and her family; his many
12nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his many lifelong friends;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16James Perry "Jim" Hecht and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Jim Hecht as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
