SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Myra Miriam Becker of Elgin, who passed away on July 10, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Myra Becker earned a master's degree in speech therapy right after World War II; an Iowa native, she and her husband moved to Elgin in 1965; and

WHEREAS, Myra Becker worked as a speech therapist in area schools; she retired from Community Unit District 300 in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Myra Becker donated much of her time to local organizations; she was a member and past president of the YWCA Elgin board and was instrumental in pushing for its child care and Teen Reach programs; she was a member of the Elgin Area League of Women Voters since 1958 and also served on the Larkin Center's board of directors before that organization closed; until her death, she was a vigorous advocate for women's empowerment, mental health, voter's rights, fair housing legislation, and education; and

WHEREAS, Myra Becker was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Morton; and

WHEREAS, Myra Becker is survived by her children, Lance (Karin Rhodes) Becker, Diana (Jerry) Cutts, and Tracy Dillinger; her grandchildren, Nora (Corey Dukes) Becker, Eli Becker, and Hannah, Ariel, Greta, and Joey Cutts; and her great-grandson, Gabriel; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Myra Miriam Becker and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Myra Becker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
