SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Myra Miriam Becker of Elgin, who passed
4away on July 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Myra Becker earned a master's degree in speech
6therapy right after World War II; an Iowa native, she and her
7husband moved to Elgin in 1965; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Myra Becker worked as a speech therapist in area
9schools; she retired from Community Unit District 300 in 1985;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Myra Becker donated much of her time to local
12organizations; she was a member and past president of the YWCA
13Elgin board and was instrumental in pushing for its child care
14and Teen Reach programs; she was a member of the Elgin Area
15League of Women Voters since 1958 and also served on the Larkin
16Center's board of directors before that organization closed;
17until her death, she was a vigorous advocate for women's
18empowerment, mental health, voter's rights, fair housing
19legislation, and education; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Myra Becker was preceded in death by her husband
21of 49 years, Morton; and

1    WHEREAS, Myra Becker is survived by her children, Lance
2(Karin Rhodes) Becker, Diana (Jerry) Cutts, and Tracy
3Dillinger; her grandchildren, Nora (Corey Dukes) Becker, Eli
4Becker, and Hannah, Ariel, Greta, and Joey Cutts; and her
5great-grandson, Gabriel; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Myra Miriam Becker and extend our sincere condolences to her
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Myra Becker as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
