SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Raymond R. "Ray" Alonzo of Silvis, who
4passed away on November 17, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo was born in Silvis to Jesus and Jobita
6(Ramirez) Alonzo on May 27, 1927; he graduated from East Moline
7High School in 1945, where he received varsity letters in
8football, basketball, and track; he served in the U.S. Army
9during World War II and married Teresa Castel in Davenport,
10Iowa on October 5, 1957; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo retired from John Deere in 1985 after
1235 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo was active in the Silvis and Quad
14Cities communities; he was a charter member and long-serving
15post commander of VFW Post 8890, and the founder of Los Amigos
16Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps and the Our Lady Of Guadalupe Father Pro
17Club; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo was a sports enthusiast and attended
19many sporting events, but mostly United Township sports and
20activities; he also loved watching his beloved Heartland Havoc
21softball teams, but especially the LiL Hearts and

1Heartbreakers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo was preceded in death by his wife,
3Teresa; his parents; and his brother, Russell Sierra; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ray Alonzo is survived by his children, John
5(Lisa) Alonzo, Tim (Wendi) Alonzo, and Mary (Larry) Bautista;
6seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one
7great-great-granddaughter; and his sister, Pat Guinn;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Raymond R. "Ray" Alonzo and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Ray Alonzo as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
