SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Melvin A. Crehl, of Billings, Montana,
4formerly of Carlinville, who passed away on February 19, 2017;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl was born on August 9, 1917 in
7Carlinville to Gus and Marie Harms Crehl; he was in the first
8group to be drafted from Macoupin County and served in the
9United States Army during World War II in Holland, Belgium, and
10Germany, where he was for VE Day; he was discharged in 1945 as
11a Staff Sergeant and married Marie E. Taylor in Springfield on
12November 17, 1946; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl farmed with his father until he was
14drafted into the military; after the war, he worked for the
15Carlinville Democrat as a printer most of his life; he retired
16in 1985 from the Carlinville Enquirer-Democrat; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl was a member of St. Paul's United
18Church of Christ, Guy Baird American Legion Post #554, and John
19L. Meyers VFW Post #1104; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl and his wife moved to Montana in 2014
21to be close to his family who had just relocated there; and

1    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl was preceded in death by his
2granddaughter, Jessica Schreiter; his sister, Alberta Lehmann;
3his wife, Marie E. Crehl; and his parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Melvin Crehl is survived by his daughter, Nancy
5(Louis D.) Schreiter; his grandson, Justin (Victoria)
6Schreiter; his granddaughter, Rebecca (Mark) Kuntz; his
7grandson, Jason (Caitlyn) Schreiter; and four
8great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Melvin A. Crehl, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Melvin Crehl as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
