SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leonard W. Biedermann of Woodstock, who
4passed away on March 3, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was born to Walter and Louise
6(Schmitt) Biedermann on March 24, 1925 and grew up in the
7family business, Biedermann Brothers Coffee in Chicago; he
8attended Tilden High School before joining the United States
9Coast Guard, where he proudly served as a signalman on Landing
10Craft Infantry 322 in the South Pacific during World War II; he
11earned his degree in English and journalism from Northwestern
12University and married Helen Bigelow in 1948 in Lombard, where
13they lived until moving to Woodstock in 1961; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann spent most of his career in
15publishing; he was a creative director at the educational
16publishing company, Science Research and Associates; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was an avid fisherman and
18cherished his time on the water; he was a 4-H leader and loved
19the county fair; he and Helen were wonderful dancers and took
20art classes together; at the age of 89, he published a
21biography of Helen's brother, which he counted among his
22greatest accomplishments; and

1    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann flew the flag every day and
2attended countless ceremonies for Veterans Day and Memorial
3Day; in 2011, he flew on the Tulsa Honor Flight with other
4World War II veterans to visit the Washington military
5monuments; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann was preceded in death by his
7parents and his brother, Richard Biedermann; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Leonard Biedermann is survived by his wife of 69
9years, Helen; his daughters, Christine (Bill) Walker, Amy Halm,
10and Janet (Edward) Hall; his sons, Bill (Penny) and Geoffrey
11Biedermann; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Leonard W. Biedermann, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Leonard Biedermann as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
