SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John J. Stamos of Northbrook, who passed away on January 28, 2017 at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, John Stamos was born in Chicago and grew up in South Chicago; he graduated from Bowen High School and attended DePaul University; he earned a law degree from the DePaul University College of Law in 1948 and served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was assigned to Belgium; and

WHEREAS, John Stamos worked for the City of Chicago as an Assistant Corporation Counsel and was assigned to the jury court from 1951 until 1953; in 1954, he joined the State's Attorney's staff; he worked in private practice from the start of 1959 until the end of 1960, when he took over the criminal division; in December of 1964, he was promoted to first assistant; and

WHEREAS, John Stamos served as Cook County State's Attorney from 1966 to 1968 and led the prosecution of Richard Speck; he then accepted a judicial nomination to serve on the State Appellate Court's First District; he won election to the post in 1968, 1972, and 1976; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, John Stamos enjoyed painting and took on some legal assignments, including arbitrations, in his son's law firm; and

WHEREAS, John Stamos was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; and

WHEREAS, John Stamos is survived by his second wife, Mary "Daisy" Stamos; his son, James Stamos; his daughters, Theo Stamos, Colleen Stamos, and Jana DiMartino; his sisters, Christine Gehopolos, and Zoe Rummel; four grandsons; his stepdaughters, Cynthia McGarrigle, and Andrea Fernandes; and his stepson, Dean Sotter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John J. Stamos, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Stamos as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
