SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John J. Stamos of Northbrook, who passed
4away on January 28, 2017 at the age of 92; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Stamos was born in Chicago and grew up in
6South Chicago; he graduated from Bowen High School and attended
7DePaul University; he earned a law degree from the DePaul
8University College of Law in 1948 and served in the United
9States Army during World War II, where he was assigned to
10Belgium; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Stamos worked for the City of Chicago as an
12Assistant Corporation Counsel and was assigned to the jury
13court from 1951 until 1953; in 1954, he joined the State's
14Attorney's staff; he worked in private practice from the start
15of 1959 until the end of 1960, when he took over the criminal
16division; in December of 1964, he was promoted to first
17assistant; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Stamos served as Cook County State's Attorney
19from 1966 to 1968 and led the prosecution of Richard Speck; he
20then accepted a judicial nomination to serve on the State
21Appellate Court's First District; he won election to the post
22in 1968, 1972, and 1976; and

1    WHEREAS, In retirement, John Stamos enjoyed painting and
2took on some legal assignments, including arbitrations, in his
3son's law firm; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Stamos was preceded in death by his first
5wife, Helen; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Stamos is survived by his second wife, Mary
7"Daisy" Stamos; his son, James Stamos; his daughters, Theo
8Stamos, Colleen Stamos, and Jana DiMartino; his sisters,
9Christine Gehopolos, and Zoe Rummel; four grandsons; his
10stepdaughters, Cynthia McGarrigle, and Andrea Fernandes; and
11his stepson, Dean Sotter; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John J. Stamos, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Stamos as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
