SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Burton D. Cohen, who passed away on March
44, 2017 at the age of 77; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Burton Cohen graduated from the Illinois
6Institute of Technology and earned a Juris Doctorate from
7Northwestern University; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Burton Cohen spent 35 years at McDonald's
9Corporation; he retired as Sr. Vice-President and Chief
10Franchising Officer, where he oversaw McDonald's franchising
11activities worldwide and helped the company grow into the
12Fortune 500; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In his retirement years, Burton Cohen kept busy as
14the founder of Burton D. Cohen & Associates; he served on the
15boards of many firms including The Learning Experience and The
16Dwyer Group; he co-authored and taught Strategic Franchising as
17a faculty member at the Kellogg School of Management at
18Northwestern University; the wildly popular course, which he
19taught for 15 years, became the gold standard in business
20school curricula; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Burton Cohen was an avid tennis player, biker, and

1golfer; he enjoyed travel and photography, taking his camera to
2six continents; he loved to cook, listen to jazz, opera, and
3classical music, and spend time with his family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Burton Cohen is survived by his wife of 48 years,
5Linda; his children, David (Kristin) and Jordana (Richard); and
6his grandchildren, Jonah, Theodore, and Florence; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Burton D. Cohen, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Burton Cohen as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
