SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James P."Jim" "Papou" Walsh of Joliet,
4who passed away on March 22, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Walsh was born in Joliet to George and
6Theresa (Fox) on March 28, 1934; he attended Joliet Township
7High School, De La Salle Institute in Chicago, and Joliet
8Junior College; he earned a bachelor's degree in business from
9Northern Illinois University, and his masters degree in
10business from the University of Chicago; he was a proud veteran
11of the United States Army serving his country from 1954 to 1956
12before being honorably discharged; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Walsh was a member of the All Saints Greek
14Orthodox Church where he was a past President of the Parish
15Council; he was a member of the AHEPA Society, the American
16Legion Post 1080, the Old Timers Baseball Association, the Boy
17Scouts of America, the Grocers Association, and the Supermarket
18Operations Instructor at College of DuPage; he also was a guest
19lecturer at Lewis University and an Instructor of Business at
20Joliet Junior College; he also served on the High School
21Distributive Education Advisory Council; and
 
22    WHEREAS, James Walsh received numerous awards and

1accolades during his career, earning the respect and overall
2regard of his colleagues; he could be firm, but always fair; if
3challenged, he could respond in a very wise manner and was
4always on top of things; he was a natural leader, able to bring
5out the best in people and inspire them; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James Walsh showed passionate dedication and
7enthusiasm for his work with his church; he was a fan of the
8Chicago White Sox; he did a lot of good things for many people,
9never seeking recognition; he was gifted with integrity and
10humility, was a great mentor, philanthropist, and friend; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Walsh was preceded in death by his parents,
12George A. and Theresa; his five brothers, Robert, Donald, Leo,
13John "Jack", and Fr. David Walsh, O'Carm; and his cherished
14in-laws, George J. and Helen Passas; and
 
15    WHEREAS, James Walsh is survived by his wife of 57 years,
16Margie; his sons, George K. (Edith), and James R. Walsh; his
17grandchildren, Zakkary Warsaw, Zoe, and Abigail Walsh; his
18sister-in-law, Margo Passas; and many nieces and nephews;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22James P. "Jim" "Papou" Walsh, and extend our sincere

1condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
2him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of James Walsh as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
