SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Henry Augustine of Livingston, who passed away on June 6, 2017; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was born in Litchfield to Henry J. "Hank" and Margariete M. (Kreuter) Augustine on April 9, 1942; he graduated from Livingston High School and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; he married Shirley Hettinger at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine served six years with the Illinois Secretary of State Police; from 1968 to 1993, he taught history at Livingston High School, where he also coached baseball; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was active in Democratic politics, serving on the Madison County Board, the Olive Township Board of Trustees, and as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman for over 40 years; he was a historian, a student, and expert on the life and career of Civil War General T.J. "Stonewall" Jackson; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was a member of Laborers Local #179, the Livingston Fire Department, the Slovak Society, the Franklin Pierce Brigade, the Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles; he was also a member, lector, usher, and retreat captain of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was a player and alumni of the Livingston 3M "BlueSeals" baseball team and wore the now retired #11; he served as commissioner of the 3M Amateur Baseball League for many years; he was also a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was affectionately known as J.H. Augustine, Mr. Augustine, Coach Augustine, Mr. Democrat, and Cowboy Jim; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Augustine; and his brother, George Driscoll Augustine; and

WHEREAS, James Augustine is survived by his children, Amy (Bryce) Rupert, Jamie (James) Herendeen, and Driscoll "Cole" (Nida) Augustine; his grandchildren, Aubry, Madelyn, Layne, Jace, and Jolee; and his expected grandson due in July to Cole and Nida; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Henry Augustine, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Augustine as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
