SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Herbert Wood of Port Byron; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Herbert Wood was born in Tipperary, Iowa on August
58, 1922; he lost his mother when he was less than a year old and
6was cared for by his grandparents until becoming the son of
7Vaniellia and Fagan Wood and moving to Bend, Oregon; he
8graduated from Bend High School; when World War II broke out,
9he enlisted in the United States Navy and became a fighter
10pilot, flying a Grumman Hellcat off the USS Yorktown, VF88 over
11Japan; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Herbert Wood worked as an international account
13manager for AT&T, representing the John Deere Communications
14Division; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Herbert Wood had a love of flying; he was a member
16of the Quiet Birdmen and started the Quad Cities Air Show with
17Dwayne Evans in the 1960s; he was an avid hunter, competitive
18skeet shooter, field trail participant, and pool shark; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Community service involvement was important to
20Herb Wood; he served with the Lions Club, the Oak Grove
21Community Center, the Arrowhead Ranch, and Youth at Risk; and

1    WHEREAS, Herbert Wood was preceded in death by his wife,
2Rose; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Herbert Wood is survived by his children, Melanie
4Wood, John (Nancy) Wood, and MaryBeth Wood; four grandchildren;
5six great-grandchildren; and his special friends, Dan Murphy,
6Doug Carlstrom, and Anita Evans; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Herbert Wood, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
10friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Herbert Wood as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
