SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald James Ruemelin of Richmond, who passed away on June 12, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin was born in Chicago to Arthur C. and Eleanor (Klett) Ruemelin on July 10, 1927; he attended St. Julianna and St. George high schools; he graduated in 1945 and served his country in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 in the 533rd Tank Division; he earned the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Germany; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin moved to Richmond in 1972 and established Hilltop Farm; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4600, serving as commander for four years; he was also a member of the American Legion, The Men of Brass, and The Red Devils Drum and Bugle Corp; he was either marching in a parade or was driving the Fireball 8 plus 1; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin enjoyed his horses and delivering black dirt and gravel; even on the hottest days of summer, he was driving his tractor and bailing hay; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Arthur; his sisters, Doris (Wetzel) and MaryJean (Hauck); and his sons, Robert S. and Micheal G. Ruemelin; and

WHEREAS, Donald Ruemelin is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia (Stoller); his daughters, Kathy Ruemelin and Susan (Greg) Houston; his daughter-in-law, Lynn Ruemelin; his grandchildren, Michael (Jodi) Ruemelin, Gina (Joe) Frano, James (Jenn) Houston, Jesse Houston, Cody Ruemelin, Ethan Houston, and Katie (Larry Kranz) Houston; and his great-grandchildren, Mikey Ruemelin, Joey and Ben Frano, Connor and Maddie Houston, and Levi, Ivan, and Zeke Kranz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Donald James Ruemelin, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Ruemelin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
