SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Walter H. Geuther of Rock Island, who passed away on June 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Walter Geuther was born in Chicago to Phillip and Anna Geuther on March 29, 1927; he served in the United States Navy during World War II; he played drums with the band "Bub and his Boys"; in his youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts; he married Norma Jean Stillwell in Leland on June 25, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Walter Geuther was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for 36 years, retiring as train master in 1982; he then worked for Trimble Funeral Homes for 22 years, retiring in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Walter Geuther was a member of Leland Lodge No. 558, AF & AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline; the Amateur Radio Relay League; and the Quad City Amateur Radio Club; he operated amateur radio station K9AHH, enjoyed bicycling, exercising and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and college basketball; and

WHEREAS, Walter Geuther was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean; and

WHEREAS, Walter Geuther is survived by his children and their spouses, Pam and John Walsh, Debra Moore, Judy and Bill Cleaver, and Jeffrey and Christine Geuther; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ernie Basler and his wife, Shirley, and Vera Baker; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Walter H. Geuther, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Walter Geuther as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
