SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Earl H. Thomas, formerly of Spring Grove, who passed away on June 17, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was the youngest and last surviving child of 10 children born to William H. and Ella Enright Thomas; he served in the 43rd Division of the United States Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II; he was joined in marriage to Virginia Wilhelm for 51 years; and

WHEREAS, Earl Thomas had a wide range of experiences, including farm life in Iowa and Wisconsin, dairy delivery in McHenry and Hinsdale, and insurance sales with MetLife; his experience with dairy delivery and MetLife resulted in a perfect knowledge of all roads in the area; and

WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was a longtime and active member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church in Johnsburg; and

WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; he and Virginia had two children, William (Marianne) and Patricia (Richard) Thompson; four grandchildren, Christiane (Ralph) Sorenson, Laura (Keith) Murray, Diana (Raymond) Zakrzwski, and John (Denise) Thompson; and five great-grandchildren, Ella and Ethan Murray and Thomas, Mark, and Michael Zakrzwski; and

WHEREAS, Earl Thomas was later married to Mary Hedge for 24 years and is survived by her many beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Earl H. Thomas, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Earl Thomas as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
