SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harry Culbertson Armstrong of Glen
4Carbon, who passed away on June 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was born in Delavan to Benjamin
6Pearl and Marie Armstrong (Meeker) on January 19, 1932; he
7graduated from Delavan High School in 1949 and earned his
8Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Law at the University of
9Illinois in 1953; he earned his Juris Doctorate from the
10University of Illinois School of Law in 1955 and was admitted
11to the Illinois Bar that same year; he married Marylyn Allgood
12on October 4, 1956 and served as a J.A.G. officer in the United
13States Air Force in Korea in the late 1950s; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong settled in Edwardsville, where he
15entered into the practice of law with James L. Reed; he became
16a partner of Reed, Armstrong and Gorman for the rest of his 55
17year career, retiring in 2011; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong likely set the record for the most
19jury trials tried to verdict in the State of Illinois; he and
20his long-time partner and friend, the late James E. Gorman, set
21the record for the most jury trials tried to verdict in the
22State of Illinois by two members of the same firm; and

1    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was a member of the American Bar
2Association and the Illinois State Bar Association; he was a
3former President of the Madison County Bar Association and a
4Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong's passions included his family,
6the law, his dogs, and traveling; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong was preceded in death by his
8parents; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harry Armstrong is survived by his wife of 60
10years, Marylyn; his sister, Marilyn Hart (Bob); his children,
11Tad Armstrong (Mel), Pam Stullken (Bill), and Amy Ducharme
12(Derek); his grandchildren, Ben Armstrong, Beth White, Ian
13Thomas, Meghan Grimmer, Megan Madrid, Hans Stullken, Wolfgang
14Stullken, Ashlee Ducharme, and Harry Ducharme; and his
15great-grandchildren, Gabby White, Maddy White, Emerson Thomas,
16Gracie Grimmer, Dean Grimmer, Willem Madrid, Sebastian Madrid,
17Bella Stullken, and Violet Stullken; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Harry Culbertson Armstrong, and extend our sincere condolences
21to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be

3presented to the family of Harry Armstrong as an expression of
4our deepest sympathy.
