SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Irene M. Allen of Joliet, who passed away on June 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Irene Allen was born in Taylor Springs to Andrew and Anna (Trusa) Krull on April 5, 1924 and was raised and educated in Mazon; she graduated from Coal City High School and attended the University of Illinois, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1946; she married Robert B. Allen Jr. in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City on May 4, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Irene Allen worked for the family business, Allen Bottling Company; later in life, she enjoyed employment in retail sampling commerce; and

WHEREAS, Irene Allen was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Joliet, where she participated in the Paulites, and over the years was active in the Joliet Catholic Mothers Club, TOPS, 4-H, the Joliet Artists League, and the Artists of the Greenhouse; she was a talented artist and an accomplished seamstress; she took great pleasure in baking and was awarded for her Banana Creme Pie; she was proud to have been a finalist in the Ms. Illinois Senior Citizens Pageant; and

WHEREAS, Irene Allen was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joshua Allen; her sister, Mary Ann Newcomb; her brother, A. Robert Krull; and her nephew, Andrew Krull; and

WHEREAS, Irene Allen is survived her husband of 70 years, Robert; her children, Robert B. (Sheila) Allen Jr., Larry (Laurie) Allen, David (Jacque) Allen, Kathy (Sam) Cindrich, Charlie Allen, and Andy Allen; her grandchildren, Bart, Ben, Luke, John, Brad, Ryan, Kate, Nate, Jill, Kevin, William, Arianna, and Ava; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend and caregiver, Paula Spurgeon; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Irene M. Allen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Irene Allen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
