SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lawrence Quentin "Larry" Smith of
4Deerfield, who passed away on July 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lawrence Smith was born in East Orange, New Jersey
6on August 30, 1931; he served in the United States Air Force
7during the Korean War; he attended Fairleigh Dickinson
8University on the GI Bill, later transferring to the New Jersey
9Institute of Technology, where he received a degree in civil
10engineering; he married Josephine V. "Jo" Bergamo on January
1125, 1958; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lawrence Smith worked for Stimsonite in New Jersey
13for 39 years until he retired as product manager in 1996; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1974, Lawrence Smith and his family moved to
15Deerfield from Roseland, New Jersey and he quickly became
16immersed in the community; he sang in Holy Cross Parish's choir
17and ushered at Sunday Mass; he was a member of the Knights of
18Columbus in New Jersey and continued on with the Knights in
19Deerfield; he later became a member of the American Legion; he
20was awarded the Village of Deerfield's Human Relations Award in
212007; and

1    WHEREAS, Lawrence Smith volunteered for Meals on Wheels and
2advised high school students for the Grand Times Program; he
3served as President of the Council at the Patty Turner Senior
4Center, where he also maintained the Lending Closet; he
5organized the annual Pancake Breakfast on the 4th of July for
6many years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lawrence Smith is survived by his wife of 59
8years, Josephine; his children, James (Eleanor Pagano) Smith,
9Karen (Mark) Ables, Susan (Stephen) Burlone, Lori (Dane) James,
10and Peter (Judith Cardiff) Smith; and his grandchildren,
11Madeline, Peter, Charles, and Michael Smith, Kimberly and
12Heather Ables, Amanda, Paige, and Austin Burlone, Parker and
13Trent James, and Meagan, Emily, and Vincent Smith; therefore,
14be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Lawrence Quentin "Larry" Smith, and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Lawrence Smith as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
