SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bernard Daniel "Bud" Godfrey Jr., who passed away on July 4, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Godfrey was a native of West Virginia; he was a state Golden Gloves boxing champion and graduated from McAlpin High School; he served his country as a member of the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Godfrey retired from JI Case-International Harvester after 27 years as a machinist and immediately returned to work as a driver for MetroLink, from which he retired after eight years of service; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Godfrey relived his love for parachuting on Father's Day 2003 at the age of 67; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Godfrey was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Ruth; his father, Bernard Daniel Godfrey; and his sister; and

WHEREAS, Bernard Godfrey is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Louise Godfrey; his children, Donna, Darrin, Susan, and Sharrie Godfrey and John Robertson; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bernard Daniel "Bud" Godfrey Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bernard Godfrey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
